Enable favourite for King George victory
By Michael Volton / June 25, 2020
Racing has returned……..finally and Royal Ascot turned out to be a great success, despite the lack of spectators in attendance. All eyes now lead to a number of upcoming meetings this summer, with the King George weekend at Ascot being one of them. The weekend is all about the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, which will be taking place on Saturday the 25th July. This will see the return of Enable, who would be looking to win the race for the third time and is set to start as the favourite.
Enable is now six years of age and it is surprising she has been kept in training and very sporting of her owner. She is a dual winner of the Arc and will again be looking to land that race this season. Enable went so close last season to winning the race for a third year in succession, only to be picked up late by the French challenger, Waldgeist. The latter now being retired, following this life-time best performance. That defeat was also just the second for Enable in her remarkable 15 race career, as she entered the race on a 12 race winning run and undefeated since back in April of 2017.
What else should you know about this race horse?
Enable has been a dominant force for several years now and will be expected to return with a victory in the King George. She first landed the race back in 2017, when starting at odds of 5/4 under Frankie Dettori. Given the increased press around her form and stature, a large number of bookies not on gamstop were competing for market share with her price – some were offering enhanced odds on the superstar to win by 3 or more lengths. Enable had tracked the leaders in the race and quickened clear from two furlongs out to win very impressively by just over four lengths from the Sir Michael Stoute trained Ulysses.
Two years on and it was a similar story, as Enable entered the King George as the overwhelming favourite to land the Ascot prize. This turned out to be a difficult task, as she was trapped out wide and had to battle to get a position early. Enable then battled it out with Crystal Ocean up the entire Ascot straight, eventually winning by a neck. That was yet another example of not only her ability but will to win.
It was a major shock she was beaten in the Arc but she still ran a solid race for second, with the ground going against her. If she can show similar form this season then she is going to take all the beating in the King George and that third Arc could be within her grasp. Now is a great time to place a bet on the race, as it’s likely her price will shorten. Even if you’ve self-excluded as part of the gamstop scheme and you can only play at non UK casinos, we have a great resource of bookies to enjoy.
